COMMITTEES
MSU Student Senate
Ninth Session
(2024-25)
Welcome to the Ninth Session of the MSU Student Senate! Ever wondered how we dive deep into important topics? It's all about our committees!
An MSU Student Senate committee is a dynamic group of Senate members chosen to focus on specific subjects. These committees allow for detailed examination, discussion with third parties, and the development of expertise in their respective areas.
Get to know our committees and see how you can get involved:
- Constitutional & Representative Review Committee:
The Constitutional & Representative Review Committee is established by the Constitution to examine the Constitution so as to be in a position to advise the Student Senate of the need for any changes it deems necessary, and to review and develop the representative structures of the Union.
- Rules & Procedures Committee:
The Rules & Procedures Committee is established by this Constitution to consider matters of procedure generally and to recommend any additions or amendments to Standing Orders that may be deemed necessary and to oversee the procedure in Standing, Select and Special Committees (as the case may be), whether by request from the relevant Committee or otherwise, and to examine, where appropriate, the role of Committees as they evolve.
- Search Committee:
The function of the Search Committee shall be to take such steps as will in its opinion best ensure participation in the selection process by high-quality candidates for the post of Speaker of the Student Senate. It shall arrange for the post to be advertised in such form and in such publications as the Search Committee may consider to be appropriate. The Search Committee may retain on behalf of Maynooth Students’ Union any one or more providers of such professional services as it considers to be appropriate.
- Selection Committe:
The function of the Selection Committee shall be to make a report in writing to the Student Senate proposing to the Student Senate the candidate (if any) for the post of Speaker of Student Senate that the Selection Committee considers to be the most suitable for such post or, if the Selection Committee is of the opinion that an offer of appointment should not be made to any candidate, stating such opinion. Before making any such proposal the Selection Committee shall obtain the consent of the candidate to his or her being proposed as a candidate for the post of Speaker of MSU Student Senate as aforesaid.
