March & October Elections at MSU – Your Chance to Lead!

Elections are a big deal at Maynooth Students' Union (MSU), and we hold them twice a year – in March and October – to make sure every student has a chance to be part of shaping the future of your Union. Whether you want to run for a position, or simply make your voice heard by voting, here’s why these elections matter!

March Elections: Lead for the Year Ahead!

March is the time when we hold our General Elections. This is your opportunity to elect the Full-Time and Part-Time Officers who will represent you for the next academic year, from 1st July to 30th June. Whether it's a Full-Time Exeutive, Part-Time Exeutive, or positions in the Student Senate, these roles shape the future of MSU. The successful candidates will work on behalf of the student body to make your Maynooth experience the best it can be.

October Elections: Get Involved Mid-Year!

Missed out on the March elections? No worries! October is your second chance to join in and get involved. This is when we fill any vacant positions, especially for first-year students and those who’ve recently joined. The October elections are also a great opportunity for students to elect their First Year Senator or participate in bye-elections for any other open positions.

Why Should You Get Involved?

  • Have a Say: Voting in the elections means you get to choose who represents your interests. This is your chance to have a direct impact on MSU and the student experience.

  • Run for a Position: Want to step up and lead? Running for a position lets you be a voice for students, make positive changes, and gain invaluable experience in leadership.

  • Get Informed: MSU holds hustings and public debates during election season so you can hear directly from candidates about their plans.

How It Works:

  • Elections are overseen by the Electoral Commission and the Returning Officer Team, ensuring they’re fair, transparent, and accessible to all.

  • All members of MSU can vote, and candidates are elected through a proportional representation system, giving every vote a real impact.

Make sure to keep an eye on the calendar when elections come around in March and October. This is your Union, and your voice matters!

Be the change. Be a leader. Or be the voter who makes a difference.
