Exams, Assessments & Regulations

There are two main exam periods each year in Maynooth, in January for Semester 1, and in May for Semester 2, with an Autumn Supplemental Exam Period held during August. For information on Exam timetables, venues, and University supports, see here.

Rules & Regulations:

There are a number of Rules & Regulations that you should adhere to while studying at Maynooth University. In relation to you academic life, you must adhere to the University Exam Regulations, and you should read and understand the Marks and Standards of the University. There are a number of other Academic Policies and Procedures which may be applicable to various cohorts of students, so it’s worth having a look through that page on the University website.

It is also important to note that different departments will have their own local policies and rules, and spending some time making sure you understand these specific regulations on a department level is worthwhile.

Generative AI:

To learn about Generative AI in your assessments and learning, read the University’s recently produced Student GenAI Working Guidelines. Again, with regard to the use of Generative AI, it is important to check with your own department about local policies.

Essay Mills:

Beware of Essay Mills, these are scam services that offer to write your assignments for you in exchange for a large fee. If you’re lucky enough to actually get an essay after you’ve sent payment, you will be losing out on key learning opportunities by not completing assignments yourself, and you will get caught sooner or later, so please don’t engage with these scams!
