Run for the MSU Executive – Lead, Represent,
Make a Difference!
Every year, Maynooth Students' Union (MSU) elects its Executive team – the student leaders who represent, support, and advocate for you! These are full-time and part-time positions that give you the opportunity to shape the future of student life at Maynooth. Whether you're passionate about academic issues, student welfare, or student life, this is your chance to take the lead!
Positions Available Each March:
- President – The CEO and chief spokesperson of the Union, leading the Executive team and representing all students. (Full-Time Paid Position)
- Vice President Academic Affairs – Advocates for academic-related issues and supports students in areas like teaching quality and assessment fairness. (Full-Time Paid Position)
- Vice President of Welfare & Equality – Focuses on student welfare, equality, and social issues, promoting campaigns on mental health, safety, and inclusion. (Full-Time Paid Position)
- Vice President of Student Life – Engages with student activities, clubs, societies, and volunteering opportunities, making sure students have the best experience beyond the classroom. (Full-Time Paid Position)
- Arts & Humanities Faculty Convenor – Represents students in this faculty, advocating on faculty-related issues and supporting academic success. (Part-Time Voluntary Position)
- Social Sciences Faculty Convenor – A voice for Social Sciences students, addressing their needs and supporting faculty-specific initiatives. (Part-Time Voluntary Position)
- Science & Engineering Faculty Convenor – Advocates for Science & Engineering students on academic and campus-related concerns. (Part-Time Voluntary Position)
- Oifigeach na Gaeilge (Irish Language Officer) – Supports and promotes the Irish language and culture across campus. (Part-Time Voluntary Position)
- Postgraduate Representative – Represents taught postgraduate students, ensuring their unique needs are met. (Part-Time Voluntary Position)
- Doctoral Postgraduate Representative – Focuses on the needs of research postgraduates, supporting them in both academic and university life. (Part-Time Voluntary Position)
Why Run for MSU Executive?

Nomination and Voting Process:
- Nomination: To run for any Executive position, you’ll need to submit a nomination form following the guidelines set by the MSU Electoral Commission.
- Campaigning: Once your nomination is approved, you’ll have the chance to campaign, meet students, and promote your vision for MSU.
- Voting: Elections are held online (with in-person on campus polling stations), and students vote through a proportional representation system with a single transferable vote to ensure fairness.
- Re-Open Nominations (RON): If voters feel none of the candidates for Full-Time positions meet their expectations, they can vote for "Re-Open Nominations", and a bye-election will be held.
- Term of Office: Members of the Executive are elected for a one-year term, from July 1 to June 30 of the following year.
How to Get Involved:
- Run for a Position: Get ready to inspire change by submitting your nomination and running for the role that excites you.
- Vote: Even if you’re not running, make sure your voice is heard by voting in the elections. Every vote counts, and it helps elect the best leaders for MSU.
