Ar an Máirt de Sheachtain na Gaeilge Mhá Nuad 2020, chuir Aontas na Mac Léinn Mhá Nuad pléphainéal ar siúl sa Venue. Phioc muid an téama “gníomhaíochas agus an Ghaeilge” mar tuigeann muid ár ról speisialta mar aontas le cearta a chur chun cinn agus tacú le heagraíocht phobail. Bhí an t-ádh orainn go raibh iar-uachtarán na Cuallachta agus iar-seanadóir an Aontais Róisín Ní Mhaoláin (Conradh na Gaeilge) againn mar chathaoirleach. Bhí aíonna den chéad scoth againn freisin le Clíodhna Ní Dhufaigh (Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn), Hannah Rua Ní Bhaoill (Gaeltacht na Mí), Kerron Ó Luain (Misneach), agus Conchúr Ó Muadaigh (Conradh na Gaeilge) ina measc. Tá pobal na Gaeilge láidir sa mhórcheantar seo agus is mór d’Aontas na Mac Léinn Mhá Nuad an pobal sin a cheiliúradh gach Seachtain na Gaeilge. Anuas air sin caithfidh muid ár mbuíochas a ghabháil leis an Dr Brian Mac Maghnuis (Oifig na Gaeilge, Ollscoil Mhá Nuad) agus leis an Dr Caitlín Nic Íomhair (Roinn na Nua-Ghaeilge, Ollscoil Mhá Nuad) as an sár-obair a rinne siad le sprioc an imeachta seo a bhaint amach. Is léir go bhfuil an-tacaíocht don teanga in Ollscoil Mhá Nuad agus go bhfuil an-tacaíocht á tabhairt ag foireann le Gaeilge san Ollscoil do mhic léinn.
On the Tuesday of Maynooth University’s Seachtain na Gaeilge 2020, Maynooth Students’ Union hosted a panel discussion in the SU Venue. We chose the theme “Activism and the Irish Language” as we understand our special role as a union in promoting rights and supporting community activism. It was our good fortune to have former Cuallacht Cholmcille President and former MSU Campus Life Senator Róisín Ní Mhaoláin as our moderator. We had a high calibre of guests as well including Clíodhna Ní Dhufaigh (Union of Students’ in Ireland), Hannah Rua Ní Bhaoill (Gaeltacht na Mí), Kerron Ó Luain (Misneach), and Conchúr Ó Muadaigh (Conradh na Gaeilge). There is a strong Irish language community in our wider area and it is a delight for Maynooth Students’ Union to celebrate that community every Seachtain na Gaeilge. Further to that, we must extend our gratitude to Dr. Brian Mac Maghnuis (Oifig na Gaeilge, Maynooth University) and to Dr. Caitlín Nic Íomhair (Department of Modern Irish, Maynooth University) for the Trojan work they did to realise the aim of this event. It is very clear that there is great support for the Irish Language in Maynooth University agus that there is great support for students among Irish Language staff in the University.
