MSU Referenda 2019

The President of the Students’ Union on behalf of the executive of the Students’ Union has called three referenda. The following is the text of the motions:

1) Proposed MSU Constitution
“Do you approve the proposed MSU constitution?”

2) MSU’s position on the decriminalization of sex work
“Do you approve of MSU campaigning for, and supporting campaigns for, the decriminalisation of sex work in Ireland and encouraging the safety of those who engage in sex work?”

3) MSU’s position on the decriminalization of Drugs
“Do you approve of MSU adopting a pro-decriminalisation of drugs and a harm reduction position?”

POLLING DATE & VOTING:

The date for all referenda has been set by the Returning Officer as Thursday the 2nd of May 2019.

On this day all students will be asked to vote a simple “YES” or “NO” on all motions individually.

Voting will be from 9am until 6:30pm at the following locations:

  • Library
  • Arts Block 
  • John Hume
  • SU Building

In order to vote you will be required to produce proof of registration via a valid Student Card.

CAMPAIGNING:

Any person(s) wishing to get involved in any campaign should contact the President of Maynooth Students’ Union, Leon Diop This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

If you wish to lead a campaign, please write an email to the President, stating an expression of interest to be the campaign manager for either side of any of the referenda.

A budget will be made available for those wishing to lead a campaign and will be administered by the returning officer team.

TOWN HALL SESSIONS:

There will also be Town Hall Meetings on Tuesday 30th April in Your Space in the SU Building discuss the Referenda.

Speakers from both sides of the debate will debate and time allowed for questions.

  • 12pm-1pm: Constitution Referendum
  • 1pm-2pm: Pro-decriminalisation of drugs stance Referendum
  • 2pm-3pm: Decriminalisation of sex work stance Referendum
