Meet Your Officers
Dillon Grace - MSU PRESIDENT
“Heya and welcome to Maynooth,
My name is Dillon Grace and I have the honour of being President of Maynooth Students’ Union (MSU) for your first here in Maynooth. I’ve been here in Maynooth for the past 5 years (4 years as an undergraduate law students and last year I was the Education Officer in MSU). The past few years have been some of the best years I’ve had. I got heavily involved with loads of Clubs & Societies during my time in Maynooth. The are a great way to keep up old hobbies and find new interests, and of course they are the best way to make new friends no matter if you are shy or outgoing. You will always find someone to talk to in a Club or Society.
As your President I represent you and strive to protect the student interest. If you every have any questions, queries, or concerns that you don’t know how to manage don’t be afraid to contact me. I’m here to help whether that’s sitting for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee or voicing your concerns at various representative bodies. Never be alone, there is always someone to lend a helping hand at MSU.
5 years ago when I came through the gates I was the only one from my school to go to Maynooth. It can be daunting but don’t be worried. Remember everyone else is in the same boat. You’re all new! Orientation is one of the most actions packed weeks of the year, full of fun, excitement, and new opportunities. Make the most of it; you may even make some lifelong friends on the very first day!
This is one of the most exciting times of your life. You’ve just set sail and you’re in control of where you want to go. Enjoy the journey.
Enjoy your time here in Maynooth & see you soon,
SIONA CAHILL AKA Karen Kane - VICE PRESIDENT FOR WELFARE & EQUALITY
Is mise Karen, and I’m your Welfare and Equality Officer! I like long walks on the beach, anything Italian, and I’m a graduate of Biomedical Science. I was born and reared in the Fre$h Roscommon air, and just to address the elephant in the room, I VOTED YES in the Marriage Referendum. Silly Roscommon, letting the team down. I travelled home on the train and everything. Sure there’s no youth in Roscommon, see this why it’s important to vote, the electorate was solid old.
To be honest, I think I have the coolest job in the whole union. My job is to listen, and make sure you feel at home. I’ll be running a PLETHORA of campaigns on Mental Health, Sexual Health, Disability Awareness, and generally how to be a #SoundScone and survive college <3
Obviously it’ll be v-hard to do all of those by myself, so if you want to help me hand out condoms, fruit and pancakes to people can you PLZ COME JOIN MY WELFARE CREW.
I’m here for anything that you think you can’t tackle alone. No matter how big, or how small you think it is. Have you got a problem with your landlord? Are you housemates being tricky? Problems with your health? Problems with your significant other? Low on funds and need condoms? Really bad at keeping track of your funds and dolla? Are you worried about upcoming exams? Feel like you don’t fit in? Questioning yourself or how you’re totally attracted to that human on the dancefloor?
Cause listen baby, ain't no mountain high, ain't no valley low, ain't no river whyyyddeee enough baaaayyybeeeee. If you need me call me, no matter where you are, no matter how far. Don’t worry bayyybeeeee,

Niamh Halpenny - VICE PRESIDENT FOR EDUCATION
“Welcome Freshers, newbies and first years,
You have no idea how jealous I am watching you begin your undergrad as I finish mine. I just want to welcome you all to Maynooth University and to your students union. I am Niamh Halpenny Vice President of Education and Deputy President of the Students Union and I am an Arts graduate of English and Geography and I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing my time as a student was here and it was a lot to do with the students union which you will get to know very well over the next couple of weeks.
So what am I here for? Simple answer to that is I am here for you; we are the student’s connection to the university and we want to make sure you make the most of your time here and really live the Maynooth experience. My area is particularly to do with education but don’t feel like you can’t call into my office for any other reason even if it is just for a chat and cup of tea, the kettle will always be on.
For any education questions I am your first stop, I personally have experienced all the highs and lows in the academic world here in Maynooth and if you for any reason have any questions big or small I will find the answer for you. Whether to do with changing modules and courses or with exams and timetables, feel free to ask me anything no question is too big or too small. If you don’t ask you will never know.
One bit of advice I can give you as you start your course of becoming a Maynoothian is get involved as much as you can, remember that all first year students starting out are feeling the pressure of entering the next part of their education so never feel like you are alone. Become a class rep and represent your department and leave your stamp behind when you set of into the big world or jump into clubs and societies and I promise you, you will make friends for life.
Always remember that we the students union are here always and they only reason we are here is because of you as a student body, never feel alone, never feel confused and remember no mountain is too high to climb.
I am so excited to meet all of you very soon and I can’t stress enough that my door is always open for any reason please do not feel stressed by yourself; I am here to feel stressed for you.
See you all very soon and enjoy every minute of the next few weeks,
Vice President Education”
